Navratri Special - Great Devi Devotees of Modern Age

 Acharya Vamadeva Shastri
the American who became Hindu

He is one of the few Westerners ever recognized in India as a "Vedacharya" or teacher of the ancient Vedic wisdom.  He is believed to be a bridge between the East and the West, the ancient and the modern.

Vamadeva Shastri works relentlessly to explain to the world about the values and concepts which Hinduism propounded which has a validity not just for Hindu Society but are meant for the entire universe. The passion for spreading the vedic knowledge is such that up-till now Shastriji has written more then 30 books on subjects such as yoga, tantra, jyotish, ayuerveda and vedanta. He started "American Institute of Vedic Studies" in USA to spread the right vedantic knowledge to the western society, Vedic Research Centre, Bangalore and has been associated with many ayuervedic Hindu organization for spreading the message of Vedas.

On deity worshiping he once mentioned, "...it honors the Earth as the Divine Mother and encourages us to honor her and help her develop her creative potentials. The deities of Hinduism permeate the world of nature…they don't belong to a single country or book only.."
