Navratri Festival Special 2013 - Did you know? - Part 3

Selene

Maa Chandraghanta, the one with the moon, in Greece

Goddess Selene

After her marriage to Lord Shiva, Goddess Mahagauri (Parvati) began to wear half Chandra on her forehead and acquired the name Goddess Chandraghanta. Devi Chandraghanta is worshipped on the third day of Navratri. Greek mythology has Selene, the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, who is the ruler of the moon. Selene drives her moon chariot across the heavens, and wears the moon on her head like Chandraghanta.
