Shri Radhe Maa - Jai Baba Gaur Bhairav ki!

Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva in his Bhairava aspect is believed to have incarnated as a prince in the family of a king in Kumaon, Uttarakhand. He is popularly known as Gaur Bhairava or Golu Devata and is known to be very powerful.

Golu Devata's father married a powerful but spiritual woman who once separated two bulls as they locked their horns. The king was impressed by her strength and decided to make her his queen. When Golu Devata was born, his jealous stepmothers put a stone in place of the baby and threw the child in cave and submerged the cage in water. A fisherman found the child and brought it up as his own. When the boy grew up he took a wooden horse to the spot where his stepmothers were and when they asked the young man what he was doing, he explained that his horse was thirsty. When the queens laughed, Golu Devata exclaimed that if a woman can give birth to a stone, a wooden horse could also drink water. The king learnt of the incident and he punished the stepmothers and made the boy king.

Golu went on to become a divine king known for his justice. To this day people who have been wronged or have suffered an injustice seek his intervention and are rewarded!

May the lotus feet of Lord Gaur Bhairava guide us to a path of right thoughts, words and deeds!

Jai Golu Devata! Har Har Mahadev! Jai Bolo Bhairav Baba ki!
