The great Shakta shastras say that without Shakti, Shiva is Shava or like a corpse. On this day, when we celebrate international Women's Day, we remind ourselves of our great traditions, a commit afresh to the ideal of equality of genders in our personal, social and professional lives.

Jai Mahashakti Mata Jogeshwari Mumbai waali!

Jogeshwari Devi or Yogeshwari Mata is Mata Parvati as the consort of Lord Shiva who is also the Lord of Yoga or Yogeshwara. She is Shakti as the slayer of Dantasur, the demon. A ancient cave temple to Mother Togeshwari is situated in a Mumbai surburb that also goes by the name Jogeshwari. Where there is Shakti, Shiva is also present. Shiva is also present near Jogeshwari in the form of Jogeshwar Mahadev. 

The temples are in bad shape due to encroachment in the area and also due to the presence of bats. Worship is offered at this temple by locals but more needs to be done. The entire neighborhood is known as Jogheshwari after the Goddess. The railway station of Jogeshwari gets its name from the goddess. The suburb is also home to the Mumbai film city where Hindi movies are made. 

May Lord Jogeshwar Mahadev and Mata Jogeshwari bless us with discrimination, compassion and love for all beings!

South African Temple where Lord Kartikeya wears a saree!

Reunion is an French island off the coast of South Africa. The Tamil Hindus on the island speak French and worship the Devi and Lord Shiva. Interestingly, the Hindus of Reunion follow shakti and look at Nataraja, who is an aspect of Shiva, as Devi and worship Lord Murugan or Kartikeya as Devi as well.They therefore tie a sari to Murugan and worship him as a manifestation of Mata Uma.

A number of Reunioners who had previously embraced Catholic Christianity are returning back to the Hindu fold and slow but steady number of people are taking Hindu names and embracing Sanatan Hindu Dharma.
