Hail Somjai, the Great Cure

Somjai is the goddess who presides over the main temple of Shrivardhan, once a village, now a quiet town on the sea shore of Raigadh district of Maharashtra.

Somjai is known for her abilities to cure people of all kinds of poisons. Her temple is said to have been constructed at the time of Rishi Agastya, the fabled Vedic scholar and sage.

May Mother Somjai bless a life free of the burdens of debt, ill-health and sorrow.

How Mumbai got its name

A demon named Mumbarka who was oppressing the residents of present-day Mumbai was punished by the great Shakti. The demon fell on his knees and surrendered to the Goddess and offered everything, including his name to the Goddess. The pleased Goddess asked the demon to mend his ways and gave permission to the demon to build a temple in Mumbai.

The Goddess as the benefactor of the demon Mumbarka came to be known as Mumba Devi, and the city where the temple stands came to be known as Mumbai, which, some say, is a shortened form of 'Mumba Aai' or Mother Mumba.

May Mother Mumba Devi bless us all!

Bolo Mata Bala Tripurasundari ji ki Jai

Bala Tripurasundari, often referred to as Bala, is the nine-year-old daughter of Mata Lalita, who is worshipped as the manifestation of Para Brahman in the Lalita Sahasranama.

As the Devi faught the daitya Bhanda, her nine year old daughter insisted that she be allowed to attack Bhanda's sons who were attacking the divine army. Nine-year-old was given permission following which she killed all the sons of Bhanda.

May Mother Bala Tripura Sundari the nourisher of all bless with her merciful glance.
