There are 24 main lila-avataras of the Supreme Being.
16th Avatara - Narashimhadeva
The half-man half-lion form that displayed the anger and power of the Supreme Being when one of His devotees was in peril. The Lord placed the demon Hiranyakashipu on His lap and with His long fingernails tore apart the body of the atheist who had threatened the life of his son, Prahlada, who was a staunch devotee of the Lord.
This is one of the most popular stories described in the Puranas.
