Veer Hammir Dev Chauhan, Sultan Allauddin Khilji and Lord Ganesha's leela

Ganpati

In the year 1299, Maharana Hammir Dev Chauhan, the Agnivanshi Rajput king had to confine himself to the Ranthambore fort when he faught a battle with Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The Maharana was a devotee of Lord Ganesha who prayed for his assistance. As a sign the Lord manifested in his aggressive Trinetra form on a wall of Ranthambore and Hammir's army defeated that of Allauddin Khilji.

The temple and the diety exist and bear testimony to Maharana Hammir's bravery and his devotion to Lord Ganesha. Every Ganesh Chaturthi - today - devotees gather at the temple to honor the lord and sing bhajans, chant mantras and offer food and flowers to the Lord who is present at the site in his three-eyed form.

May Tri-netra Ganesh, dear to Maharana Hammir Dev Chauhan, shower his grace on all his devotees on this special occasion.

Mahima of Ganesha Chaturthi

All Hindu Devatas represent facilitating cosmic forces that are present on other planes and available to assist seekers in their spiritual journeys. Their manifestations become stronger at places where their idols are installed and regular worship is offered. The murtis, yantras and mantras of the Devata take nourishment from the food, incense, oil and bhava offered to them and reflect them to the devotees when aarti is performed.

Ganesh Chaturthi is the day on which Lord Ganesha manifests at his strongest on this plane. He makes himself available to those who face obstacles in fulfilling the four purushartas - Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha - and removes them.

So, make it a point to offer worship to the Lord, offer him food, deepa and pure bhava on this auspicious day and the apple of Maa Gauri's eye will surely bless you.

Om Gam Ganapataye Namah! Ganpati  Bappa Morya!

How do the Japanese chant Ganesha mantras?

Ganpati

The Japanese know Ganesha as Kangiten who is also worshiped in a dual form as Kangiten. The dual Ganesha has images of both Vinayaka as well as Vinayaki in an embrace. Couples who desire happiness in the married life and children worship Vinayaka in this form in Japan. The Japanese consider Ganesha as the granter of prosperity and is therefore very popular among businessmen.

While there are hundreds of of Ganesh temples in Japan, the most important the Hōzan-ji shrine on Mount Ikoma.

Ganapati Bappa in Australia

Ganesh - Ganpati
Lord Ganesha is the main deity at the Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar temple in Melbourne, Australia.

The first prayer of a Hindu is always to Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is the first son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Tamils call Him by the affectionate term “Pillayar” meaning noble child. We worship him primarily to remove all obstacles on our path of progress and to seek His grace to grant us wisdom. When one starts a new venture, one prays to Lord Ganesha first to make sure that there are no obstacles on his / her path of progress. Lord Ganesha has the figure of an elephant head and a potbelly. He is seated on a mouse.
May Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar of The Basin, Melbourne, remove all obstacles on the path of his devotees!

Singing Ganesh Bhajans in Bali, Indonesia

Bali - Ganesha

Indonesia was a Hindu nation before the people converted to Islam and Hindu temples are therefore found across the country. Bali, which remains almost entirely Hindu continues to worship in the Hindu way. They follow the Vedas, hold pujas and worship Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Balinese Hindus are however mainly Shiva worshipers and not surprisingly Ganesh is a popular deity and his idols are often found during excavations and also in temples where worship continues to be held.

One of the most popular Ganesh murtis is found in Ubud, a place of many Hindu shrines. Hindus revere the idol and offer it worship. Bolo Ubud waale Ganesh ji ki jai!

Worshiping Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in Muslim Indonesia

Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are present in a cave in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, in the form of three lingas that are venerated by the local Hindus. The cave is called Goa Gajah. Goa, which is pronounced Guha, is cave in Sanskrit and Gajah is elephant.

There was a time when Indonesia, which is now a Muslim country except for the island of Bali, used to be predominantly Hindu. To this day, there are Hindu temples across the country.

Bali, however, remains staunchly Hindu and there also have been several instances of Muslims embracing Hinduism in the country.

May the three Lords - Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesha - of Guha Gajah - bless us with pride in the traditions of Sanatan Hindu Dharma!

Paramhansa Swami Trailanga, the living Shiva of Varanasi

Shiva

Swami Trailanga, the great saint of Varanasi in the twentieth century, was considered Lord Shiva in person by devotees. Towards the end of his life, Swami would sit very still for hours together as devotees poured water on him from early in the morning to noon as an act of devotion to Lord Shiva.
Swami was known to posses many yogic powers but lived simply.

Sri Ramakrishna, the great mystic of Bengal and Kali's son, declared "I saw that the universal Lord Himself was using his body as a vehicle for manifestation. He was in an exalted state of knowledge. There was no body-consciousness in him. Sand there became so hot in the sun that no one could set foot on it. But he lay comfortably on it."

May Lord Shiva, the lord of Varanasi, bless us with his merciful glance!

All hail, Bhagwati Nanda Devi of Uttarakhand!

The Nanda-Raj-Jat is a religious procession undertaken by Uttarakhandi Hindus once in 12 years to honor Goddess Nanda, Lord Shiva's consort. A four-horned ram (male sheep) is born in the region, which is understood to be chosen by the Goddess. This ram is located, cared for and later released in the Himalayas with all the honor that is due to a daughter being married.

The Raj Jat is currently underway. It began on 17th August 2014 and will conclude on 6th September, 2014.

The procession starts at Nauti Village near Karnaprayag in Garhwal, Uttarakhand, and ends at Roopkund and Hemkund. The procession winds through 290 km of hilly terrain and takes lot of strength and devotion. The goddesses Nanda and Sunanda are sisters who are considered to live on two mountains that carry their names.

May all devotees of Mata Rani Nanda Bhagwati the ishta devi of Uttarkhandis bless all her devotees!
