Kanhopatra, the prostitute who fell in love with Vitthala Sri Krishna

Sant Kanhopatra was born to a courtesan mother and was known to be of exceptional beauty and was trained in music and dance so she could join her mother's profession. However, Kanohpatra wanted to get married and she wanted to marry a man who was better looking than her.

Being a divine soul Kanhopatra had no attraction for money, fame or luxury that her profession could bring her.

Once, she spoke to some Warkari Vaishnavas who spoke of Lord Vithala's beauty, generosity and love for his devotees and assured her that he would indeed accept her as he was bhakta-vatsal. Struck by the words Kanhopatra traveled to Pandharpur and never left. She is the only saint to have a samadhi within the temple precincts.

May Sant Kanhopatra's life inspire our hearts with love for Pandhuranga the charmer of Pandharpur.

Jai Jai Rama Krishna Hari!

Sant Namdev, the Marathi Vaishnava Honored By Sikhs

Sant Namdev was born in a family of tailors to a mother who was devoted to Lord Vithala of Pandharpur who is Shri Krishna standing on a brick.

Sant Namdev wrote a number of abhangs and his honored to this day by vaishnavas in Maharashtra. However, not many people know that Sant Namdev spend a number of years in Punjab and also wrote in Hindi.
Such was his stature as a saint poet that sixty-one of his hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib.

In contrast to his work in Marathi, which recognise God with form - vitthala, Sant Namdev's poems in Hindi adore god in his nirguna-nirakar form.
