Singing Ganesh Bhajans in Bali, Indonesia
![]() |
| Bali - Ganesha |
Indonesia was a Hindu nation before the people converted to Islam and Hindu temples are therefore found across the country. Bali, which remains almost entirely Hindu continues to worship in the Hindu way. They follow the Vedas, hold pujas and worship Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Balinese Hindus are however mainly Shiva worshipers and not surprisingly Ganesh is a popular deity and his idols are often found during excavations and also in temples where worship continues to be held.
One of the most popular Ganesh murtis is found in Ubud, a place of many Hindu shrines. Hindus revere the idol and offer it worship. Bolo Ubud waale Ganesh ji ki jai!

Draupadi's greatest regret after the Mahabharata war
![]() |
| Krishna - Draupadi |
Draupadi, a great devotee of Krishna, was asked what was her greatest regret after all the blood letting of the Mahabharata.
Draupadi had lost her five sons when Ashwatthama, the son Drona, the guru of the Pandavas, set fire to the Pandava tent at night. He had mistaken them for the five Pandavas. Draupadi was beside herself with grief but there was nothing she could do.
When she was asked the question, she was prompt with the reply. "I wish my brave sons were awake. Had they been martyred, they would have remembered Krishna, and that thought would have given them moksha. The fact that my beloved sons were asleep when this happend, is my greatest regret," said Draupadi.

Shri Radhe Maa - Jai Mata Bhudevi Andal ki!
![]() |
| Lord Ranganatha |
A Brahmin named Vishnuchitta found an infant girl under a Tulasi tree and decided to bring her up as his own. He named her Goda, which in Tamil means "gift of Mother Earth" He was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once he prepared a garland for the Lord but when he looked for it a short while later he could not find it.
The garland was found on Goda's neck. This upset her father who reprimanded her for her insolence. He strung a fresh garland and offered it to the lord. Later that night the Lord appeared to the Brahmin and told his that her preferred garlands worn by Goda.
Moved, the Brahmin renamed Goda "Andal" which means "the girl who ruled over the Lord". Andal grew up to be a beautiful girl. Her father wanted her to marry but Andal said she could only take Lord Ranganatha, the presiding deity of Shrirangam as her husband.
Andal is credited with two works in Tamil that are alive with her love for Krishna, the darling of Gokula.
Her father reasoned with Andal but she was firm in her resolve. Her old father consulted other learned Brahmins who advised him to let the girl have her way. She was to be brought to the temple dressed as a bride.
Andal was brought to the temple where she merged with the Lord and became immortal in the memories of all Sri Vaishnavas of the South.
May Mata Andal's personal example inspire the love of the blued skinned lord in our hearts!
