Hanuman ji, Neem Karoli Baba and Khemua

Lord Hanuman
Khemua, a worker at Neem Karoli Baba's ashram was asked to leave by Babaji after he quarreled with workers in the kitchen. Khemua said he would only leave after Hanumanji's work was done.

Khemua was then given the task of tending to the cows and not allowed to enter the ashram. Everyday, the workers in the ashram kitchen brought him his food at the gate of the temple. One night, devotees found Babaji in his kutiya. Babaji would not eat. When they were asked, Babaji with tears in his eyes said the workers in the kitchen had forgotten to feed Khemua. He had waited for his food at the gate and no one had come.

Such is the compassion of the people of God!

May the example of Neem Karoli Baba, the most elevated among devotees of Lord Hanuman ji, bless us with compassion for all beings! Baba ji ki! Jai Hanuman Dada ki!

Lord Shiva, Swami Ram and the tale of three potatoes

One night, Swami Ram, the great expounder of Kashmir Shaivism, came out of Samadhi after several days. He sent a disciple to get some potatoes from the house of a devotee. The lady of the house, whose son was terminally ill, was angry at being awakened at such a late hour. When the disciple returned empty handed, Swami ji said that he was trying to stop yamraj from claiming her son's life but now he had no choice but to let fate take its course.

The next day, the devotee's son passed away. A Muslim woman who was childless heard that the Swami needed potatoes. She hurried with a basketful. "Why this basketful of potatoes? You cannot handle so many?" said the Swami.

He picked up three potatoes and gave it to the woman, who gave birth to three sons in time. Such is the leela of true masters.

May Lord Shiva, who resides in us as our effulgent self, awaken the fire of vairagya within us!

Trailanga Swami, the ferocious tiger and the king of Nepal

The king of Nepal was not able to shoot a tiger despite repeated attempts. He chased the tiger into thick bushes and with his gun ready, he proceeded cautiously. He heard a deep growl and walked in that direction. He saw the terrified tiger sitting at the feet of a naked sadhu. The Sadhu was patting the roaring tiger.

"Fear not, o king. The tiger intends no harm. Everything has been created by God. When you love, you are loved in return. Always, bear this in mind," said the calm yogi.

The yogi was none other than Trailanga Swami (1607-1887), who was known as Living Shiva of Benaras.

Har Har Mahadev! Jai Trailanga Swami!

May we be fortunate to lay our heads in worshipful reverence at the lotus feet of Trailanga Swami, the leading among Shiva-bhaktas!

Ramprasad Sen and Annapurna of Varanasi

Ramprasad Sen, the renowned tantric, devotee of Mother Kali and great poet, was once walking to the Ganga for his prayers when a stunningly beautiful woman stopped him. "Kind sir, please sing me some of your songs to the Mother," said she.

Ramprasad answered, "Mother, I am getting late for my prayer. I shall complete my daily worship and sing to you."

After he returned, Ramprasad found that the woman had left. Later, when he slept the woman came to him in his dream and told him, "I am Annapurna of Varanasi and came here to listen to your songs and you did not do what I asked you to."

Ramprasad hurried to Varanasi so he could fulfill the wish of the Goddess. On the way, he stopped and slept a while, where the Goddess appeared to Ramprasad again. "Worship me here. I am in Varanasi, and I also pervade all existence," said the Mother.

Ramprasad did what he was ordered to and returned to his home.

May Mata Annapurna who blessed the poet Ramprasad Sen bless us with intelligence, wisdom and longing for service to the lotus feet of Maa Shyama, the first cause of the universe!

Shri Radhe Maa - Mata Tara and her Mad son Bama Khepa

Tara Devi

The great son of Maa Tara, Bama Khepa (1837–1911), who was considered mad by many ate leftover food with dogs and jackals from the same leaf. He would also eat food that was meant to be offered to Maa Tara. The Brahmins of the temple, which was owned privately, were furious.

Bama Khepa was attacked. He was threatened and barred from entering the temple. "Maa Tara asks me to have the food in this manner," said Bama Khepa. A few days later, the owner of the temple had a dream. He saw Maa Tara, hear face filled with bruises, leaving the temple for Kailash in the Himalayas. "I have taken my mad son's blows on my face. You do not let my son eat, so I have decided that I will not eat anything offered here. How can a mother eat before feeding her child? You must let my son eat before you offer anything to me, or I shall leave this place," said Maa Tara.

Bama Khepa was made the priest of the temple and no one stopped him from eating food meant to be offered to the Goddess from that time.

May Maa Tara, the guiding star to all beings and mother of Bama Khepa, bless all her children with liberation!
