Lord Ram Bhakta Mirza Khan Abdul Rahim

Khanzada Mirza Khan Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana born on 17 December 1556 and died 1626, also known as Rahim was one of the nine gems or navartanas of Akbar's court. He was a friend of Goswami Tulasidas, the author of the Ramcharit Manas. A Muslim by birth, Rahim wrote dohas in praise of Lord Krishna and also in honor of Lord Rama about whom he wrote

Gahi Sanrnagati Ram ki, bhavsagar ki Naav
Rahiman Jagat uddhar ko, ar na kou upay

The refuge of Shri Rama is the lone boat
Of liberation from this earth, says Rahim
There is no other way
- Rahim

Ab Rahim Muskil Padi, Gaadhe dono kaam
Saache se to jag nahin, jhuthe mile naa Ram

Rahim such is the dilemna of the wise
The true have it tough in the world
And liars never attract the grace of Ram

A Muslim king who honours Lord Rama

Kakawin Ramayana is the Indonesian version of the Ramayana and is derived from the Tamil Kamba Ramayana, which in turn is based on the Ramayana of Maharishi Valmiki.

The king of Jogjakarta, Indonesia, likes puppet shows based on the Ramayana or Mahabharata in his Palace every day. He also pays in part for the the only daily Ramayana dance ballet. All the two hundred artistes are Muslims, including their king. We ask the leading actors how they perform Ramayana with such ardent involvement. The spontaneous reply is: “Islam is our religion. Ramayana is our culture.”

Shiva's avatar Hanuman and Sanno of Japan

Sanno, which means mountain king, is an important deity in Japan and the Divine Monkey is his avatar.

Among the Hindus 'Shiva' is the deity who is associated with mountain peaks and his avatar is Lord Hanuman.

The Japanese pray to the Divine Monkey for safe childbirth and harmonious marriage, and red monkey charms are used to ward off evil and disease.

Hanuman in Ancient Mayan Civilization

Honduras, in Central America, has ancient idols of a deity that was sacred to the Mayans. The howler monkey god is believed to be a major deity of the arts - including music - and a patron of the artisans, especially of the scribes and sculptors. The idol, much like depictions of Hanuman, holds a mace-like object in his hands and would be recognized by most Hindus as Hanuman.

What do you think?
