Hail Lord Mukteshwar Shiva of Juhu granter of mukti!

The Shiva Mukteshwar Mandir or Devalaya opposite the famous Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple in Juhu, Mumbai, is at least 400 years old by the most conservative estimates. Mukteshwar Mahadev is the form of Lord Shiva who grants liberation from the cycle of Life and Death.

Mukteshwar Shiva also has his own pond which was used by pilgrims to have a bath before they entered the temple which also has a seven-storeyed structure that houses the Ashta Vinayaka, Ram Parivar and also Lord Vitthal and Mother Rukmini!

May Lord Shiva Mukteshwar the one who offers mukti from all material, social and emotional suffering bless us with compassionate eyes! Har Har Mahadev! Jai Mata Di!

The Pathan who translated the Bhagvad Puran into Persian

Poet and devotee of Krishna Syed Ibrahim 'Ras Khan' translated the Shrimad Bhagvad Puran into Persian, the language of the Iranians and the language of the educated elite during the Muslim rule in India. Ras Khan says in a poem that if God grants him another birth he would like to be reborn as a bird on the kadamba trees that grow on the banks of the Jamuna where Lord Krishna enacted his raas-leela.

Did you know ? - Lord Rama in Cambodia

Reamker, the celebrated Cambodian work of literature, is an epic poem that has the Valmiki Ramayana as its basis. Reamker means the Glory of Rama.

While nearly all the characters and the storyline of this Cambodian classic mirror that of the Ramayana, there are significant differences too. The Cambodian Ramayana has a strong Buddhist element in it and there is a very popular love story in the Cambodian Ramayana involving Hanuman and a Golden Mermain who goes by the name Sovanna Maccha.

The story of Lord Ram finds pride of place in several carvings in famous Buddhist temples scattered across Cambodia and Lord Rama is considered to be the storehouse of virtues by the people of this Buddhist land.

Navratri Festival Special 2013 - Did you know? - Part 6

Durga katyayani and Mother Isis

Durga Katyayani and Isis the great goddess of Egypt

Maa katyayini
Katyayini, the sixth amongst the Navadurgas, has close parallels with Isis the ancient Egyptian goddess. Karyayini is a fierce protector of devotees who does not merely destroy their enemies without but also burns to ashes qualities like ignorance, anger and greed that come in the way a devotees spiritual growth.

Isis is like Katyayini a Goddess of magic and the power behind mantras and incantations. Just as Katyayaini is called mantrini, Isis was known as the Lady of the Words of Power.

Shri Radhe Maa Trust organizes Anup Jalota concert in old age home

Photo: Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa Charitable Trust to hold a Bhajan Sandhya for residents of Aadhar Old Age Home, Borivali (East) by Padmashri Anup Jalota ji on Wednesday 31st July 2013.
The event is in line with Shri Guru Maa’s teachings to take spirituality beyond the temple and turn it into seva for the benefit of all beings.

In the autumn of their lives, the residents of Aadhar Old Age Home take each day as it comes. Battered by failing health, weakening memory and a deep sense of loss from being abandoned by the very families they help build, these superstars have not forgotten to smile. On Wednesday 31st July, 2013, from 6pm to 7pm,  Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa Charitable Trust plans to give the residents a fresh reason to cheer.

Bhajan Samrat Padmashri shri Anup Jalota ji will perform in a Bhajan Sandhya organized by the trust exclusively for the residents of Aadhar. Mr Jalota is expected to sing several evergreen classics like ‘Aisi Lagi Lagan’, ‘Chahe Krishna Kaho yaa Raam’ and ‘Rang De Chunariya’ along with newer compositions for the residents of the old age home who number over 125.

The institution mostly houses senior citizens abandoned by their families, and includes couples. Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa Charitable Trust has been associated with Aadhar Old Age Home for the last 10 years. The trust’s social work initiatives are inspired by Shri Radhe Guru Maa’s teachings that ask devotees to go beyond the temple and engage in good works for the benefit of all beings.

Sanjeev Gupta, a devotee of Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa and a member of the trust, which handles the entire gamut of social service initiatives of the Hindu guru that includes women’s empowerment programs, health camps, blood donations, support to schools for students of limited means, orphanages, old age homes, gaushalas and temples, said, “Our trust supports various institutions like Aadhar with food grains & snacks, Free Medical – Dental, Food, Heart checkup, free cataract operation, medicines, distribution of sewing machine, laptops, stationery, also clothes distribution. We also organise pilgrimages for old age home residents to spiritual locations nearby. However, we believe that it is not enough to feed, clothe and care for the body. The heart and soul also require nourishment. It is equally important to address one's spiritual longing. Which is why we routinely organize bhajan sandhyas in old age homes,” Mr Gupta said.

“Guru Maa says that Narayana resides in all hearts. We are happy that Aadhar Old Age Home has given us an opportunity to serve the senior citizens and through them helped us to serve guru and God,” he added.

One may also volunteer in Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa’s social initiatives that include book donation drives, blood donation drives and heart – check up campaigns. Contact Shri Radhe Maa’s sevadar on +91 98200 82849 or email on admin@radhemaa.com to participate in the charitable efforts.
