बछ बारस गोवत्स द्वादशी व्रत पूजा विधि

बछ बारस को गौवत्स द्वादशी और बच्छ दुआ  भी कहते हैं। बछ बारस भाद्रपद महीने की कृष्ण पक्ष की द्वादशी को मनाई जाती है। बछ यानि बछड़ा, गाय के छोटे बच्चे को कहते है । इस दिन को मनाने का उद्देश्य गाय व बछड़े का महत्त्व समझाना है। यह दिन गोवत्स द्वादशी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। गोवत्स का मतलब भी गाय का बच्चा ही होता है।

बछ बारस का यह दिन कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी के चार दिन बाद आता है । कृष्ण भगवान को गाय व बछड़ा बहुत प्रिय थे तथा गाय में सैकड़ो देवताओं का वास माना जाता है। गाय व बछड़े की पूजा करने से कृष्ण भगवान का , गाय में निवास करने वाले देवताओं का और गाय का आशीर्वाद मिलता है जिससे परिवार में खुशहाली बनी रहती है ऐसा माना जाता है।

इस दिन महिलायें बछ बारस का व्रत रखती है। यह व्रत सुहागन महिलाएं सुपुत्र प्राप्ति और पुत्र की मंगल कामना के लिए व परिवार की खुशहाली के लिए करती है। गाय और बछड़े का पूजन किया जाता है। इस दिन गाय का दूध और दूध से बने पदार्थ जैसे दही , मक्खन , घी आदि का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता। इसके अलावा गेहूँ और चावल तथा इनसे बने सामान नहीं खाये जाते ।

भोजन में चाकू से कटी हुई किसी भी चीज का सेवन नहीं करते है। इस दिन अंकुरित अनाज जैसे चना , मोठ , मूंग , मटर आदि का उपयोग किया जाता है। भोजन में बेसन से बने आहार जैसे कढ़ी , पकोड़ी , भजिये आदि तथा मक्के , बाजरे ,ज्वार आदि की रोटी तथा बेसन से बनी मिठाई का उपयोग किया जाता है।

बछ बारस के व्रत का उद्यापन करते समय इसी प्रकार का भोजन बनाना चाहिए। उजरने में यानि उद्यापन में बारह स्त्रियां , दो चाँद सूरज की और एक साठिया इन सबको यही भोजन कराया जाता है।

शास्त्रो के अनुसार इस दिन गाय की सेवा करने से , उसे हरा चारा खिलाने से परिवार में महालक्ष्मी की कृपा बनी रहती है तथा परिवार में अकालमृत्यु की सम्भावना समाप्त होती है।

Shri Radhe Guru Maa - Naraka Chaturdashi

Narakasur vadh

This is the day Lord Krishna killed the demon Mura, the general of King Narakasura's forces,  and came to be called Murari. Narakasura was the son of Lord Vishnu in his Varaha avatar and Bhudevi or mother Earth.

Lord Krishna and Mata Satyabhama killed Narakasura who had kidnapped thousands of women and was harassing the Devas but before he died he asked Satyabhama, who was an avatar of Bhudevi - his own mother. He wanted people to mark the day of his death by lighting lamps! 

May we remember Lord Krishna, Mother Bhudevi and Mata Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu on this day! May their light always shine on us!

Dhanteras, the day on which Yamaraja was defeated

Dhanteras celebrates the victory of the bride of the 16-year-old son of king Hima over death who it had been predicted would die of snakebite on the night. Yamaraja who assumed the form of a serpent was so dazzled by the lights and the piles of gold that gleamed in the palace that he stopped on the pile as the young bride narrated story after story to her husband so he would not fall asleep.

When the time of taking the young prince's soul passed, Lord Yamaraja quietly slipped away as the sun rose. The bride defeated death on this day!

May Mother Lakshmi, the ruling deity of this auspicious day, shower her devotees with love, happiness and abundance! Wish one and all a very Happy Dhanteras!

The Significance of Chhoti Diwali

The day before Diwali is celebrated as Chhoti Diwali / Narak Chaturdasi or 'small Diwali'. It is Diwali on a smaller scale, with fewer lights lit and fewer crackers burst. The morning after Choti Diwali, the women of the house make beautiful, colored rangoli in the doorway and courtyard. Tiny footprints made out of rice paste are a special feature of the rangolis made for Diwali. In Hindu homes, Chhoti Diwali celebrations involve a ritual puja to Goddess Lakshmi and also to Rama in the evening. Songs in honor of the god are sung and aarti is performed.

In South India that victory of the divine over the mundane is celebrated in a very peculiar way. People wake up before sunrise prepare a paste by mixing Kumkum in oil, symbolizing blood and after breaking a bitter fruit that represents the head of the demon King that was smashed by Krishna, apply that mixture on their foreheads. Then they have an oil bath using sandalwood paste.

In Maharashtra also, traditional early baths with oil and "Uptan" (paste) of gram flour and fragrant powders are a `must'. All through the ritual of baths, deafening sounds of crackers and fireworks are there in order that the children enjoy bathing. Afterward steamed vermicelli with milk and sugar or puffed rice with curd is served.
