Sant
Namdev was born in a family of tailors to a mother who was devoted to
Lord Vithala of Pandharpur who is Shri Krishna standing on a brick.
Sant Namdev
wrote a number of abhangs and his honored to this day by vaishnavas in
Maharashtra. However, not many people know that Sant Namdev spend a
number of years in Punjab and also wrote in Hindi.
Such was his stature as a saint poet that sixty-one of his hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib.
In
contrast to his work in Marathi, which recognise God with form -
vitthala, Sant Namdev's poems in Hindi adore god in his nirguna-nirakar
form.
