Maa Chandika

Mata Chandika temple in Naigaon in the Mumbai Metropolitan marks the spot where Mata Mangala Chaṇḍika, after she killed the demons Sumbha and Nisumbha rākṣhasas, rested in her ugra or feirce aspect. 

The Goddess here appears in three forms: Mangala Chandikā, Mahisasura Mardini and Kalika Devi. After being pacified here, the Goddess went to Nāśik and appeared as Saptasgrungi devi.

Though the Goddesses here are svayambhu, the temple structures are renovated and are fairly new. The three Goddesses appear on a rock of a hill inside a cave. One needs to ascend around 200 steps in order to reach this cave temple. It is very interesting that the honey bees here, many times, naturally construct their honey combs in the form of Śiva linga. Perhaps even the bees know that the place is sacred!

Victory to Mata Chandika of Bageshwar!

The deity of the Mata Chandika shrine is believed to possess extraordinary powers of granting wishes of her devotees. As Goddess Chandika is a fierce form of the devi people seek her blessings to destroy negativity in the lives and in their fortunes.

The pahadis have deep faith in Mother Chandika of Bageshwar and the temple also attracts devotees from other parts of the country during Navratris when a big fair is held every year.

Spot where Mata Chandika rested after killing demons Chanda and Munda

Chandi Devi Temple, Haridwar

Asura king Shumbha dispatched his the demons Chanda and Munda to kill Chandi Devi, who was a manifestation of Devi Parvati. Chandi's anger created Chamunda, who destroyed Chanda and Munda and followed it by killing the asuras Shumbha and Nishumbha. 

Haridwar's famous Chandi Mandir marks the spot where Goddess Chandi rested after destroying the demons. A big fair is held during Chandi Chaudas at the temple every year. May Mata Chandika, the protector of her sons and daughters, bless us all!
