When Chamunda turned vegetarian for her Jain devotees

According to Jain beliefs, Jain monk, Acharya Shrimad Vijay Ratnaprabhasuriji Maharaj Sahib, who visited Osian town near Jodhpur, Rajasthan, around 43 AD was pained to see buffaloes being sacrificed to please the goddess Chamunda in her temple during Navratri.

The monk got the king to ban bali, and angered the goddess who subjected the monk to her anger. The monk suffered but refused to abandon ahimsa. The Goddess had a change of heart and agreed to accepting saffron, sandal and dhoop from her devotees. She was called as Sachi Mata by the monk and that is the name by which she is known to this day. In her aspect as Sachi Mata (Sachiya Mata), she is known to protect those who walk the path of the Tirthankars. Her temple attracts lakhs of devotees every year.

May Mata Chamunda in her manifestation as Sachi Mata bless us all on the path of love, non-violence and cooperation. Jai Mata Di!
