Mata Chandika |
Chandi Devi Temple, Haridwar |
Asura
king Shumbha dispatched his the demons Chanda and Munda to kill Chandi
Devi, who was a manifestation of Devi Parvati. Chandi's anger created
Chamunda, who destroyed Chanda and Munda and followed it by killing the
asuras Shumbha and Nishumbha.
Haridwar's famous Chandi Mandir marks the spot where
Goddess Chandi rested after destroying the demons. A big fair is held
during Chandi Chaudas at the temple every year. May Mata Chandika, the
protector of her sons and daughters, bless us all!
