Did you know ? - Lord Rama in Cambodia

Reamker, the celebrated Cambodian work of literature, is an epic poem that has the Valmiki Ramayana as its basis. Reamker means the Glory of Rama.

While nearly all the characters and the storyline of this Cambodian classic mirror that of the Ramayana, there are significant differences too. The Cambodian Ramayana has a strong Buddhist element in it and there is a very popular love story in the Cambodian Ramayana involving Hanuman and a Golden Mermain who goes by the name Sovanna Maccha.

The story of Lord Ram finds pride of place in several carvings in famous Buddhist temples scattered across Cambodia and Lord Rama is considered to be the storehouse of virtues by the people of this Buddhist land.
