Caste discrimination stopped poet-philosopher Kanakadasa from entering the Udipi Sri Krishna temple where the saint wished to take darshan of his Lord and Master. They, priests believed Kanakadasa was too low in caste hierarchy to be allowed into the temple. Sri Kanakadasa stood outside the temple walls and prayed to Sri Krishna and poured his heart out to him. The Lord’s idol turned to face Sri Kanakadasa and the temple’s wall cracked and Kanakadasa could have unimpeded darshan of Sri Krishna.
To this day devotees take darshan of Sri Krishna of Udipi through the crack in the wall where the lord revealed that bhakti was what mattered to him more than man-made divisions of caste and creed!
