Lord Khandoba Shiva and his Muslim connection

Khandoba, a form of Lord Shiva,  is widely worshiped in Maharashtra. Some texts note that Mulslims regard Khandoba as a Muslim peer and call him Mallu or Ajmat Khan. Devotees believe that one of Khandoba's many wives is a Muslim, and his horse-keeper is a Muslim to this day.

The Mallari Mahatmya,  and Martanda Vijaya written by Gangadhara (1821) say that Khandoba's devotees are mainly Muslims. The king Ibrahim II made arrangements for annual Jatra of Khandoba and also recognized the right of pilgrims to perform rituals at the Naldurg temple.

May Lord Khandoba bless us with the light of discrimination and knowledge.
