Dowry case: Radhe Maa not named in chargesheet - The Times Of India

MUMBAI: The Kandivli police, who questioned godwoman Radhe Maa alias Sukhvinder Kaur several times in a dowry harassment case last year, has not  named her in the chargesheet. Her statement has also not been included in the 230 page-long chargesheet. However, police have included statements of two of her associates — Chhoti Maa and Talli Baba.

Kandivli police had filed a case against Radhe Maa on July 18, 2015, for allegedly instigating the in-laws of a 32-year-old housewife, Niki Gupta, to harass her for dowry. Niki's counsel had argued that her in-laws and family members were disciples of Radhe Maa and that the godwoman had complete control over them.

Radhe Maa had rejected all the allegations in her petition to the Bombay high court and was granted pre-arrest bail.

In the chargesheet, police have stated that they found no evidence against Radhe Maa. The chargesheet only names six members of Niki's family including her husband and in-laws as accused.

In her statement, Chhoti Maa alias Ritu Sareen has alleged that Niki had never visited Radhe Maa alone and was always accompanied by her family. She also refuted the allegation that Niki had gifted valuables or cash to Radhe Maa. “Talli baba and I are the only two people allowed into Radhe Maa's room for her seva. So, there's no question of Niki being forced into seva or being assaulted by Radhe Maa," her statement says. "If while recording Niki's statement during the trial, it comes on record that there is an overt act on part of Radhe Maa we will make an application to make the godwoman an accused," said Kshitij Mehta, Niki's lawyer. The next hearing is scheduled for October 7.
