What
is Vaikunta Ekadashi
Vaikunta
Ekadashi is mostly celebrated in the southern regions of India. In Northern
India, this Ekadashi is known as Putrada Ekadashi. This occurs in the month of
Margashirsha which is between December and January. In 2012, it falls on the 24th
December.
Ekadashi is a monthly fasting ritual which is observed by many
devotees on the 11th day of lunar eclipse. The entire month is
dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
According
to Hindu mythology, fasting on this auspicious day is equivalent to fasting on
the remaining 23 other Ekadashis according to the Hindu calendar. Vaikunta
Ekadashi is considered to be one of the most auspicious days according to the
Hindu mythology.
