Japan: Where devotees offer oil-abhishek to Ganesha

Ganpati
Japan, where there are said to be over 250 temples to Ganesh who is known to them as Kankiten. The Hōkaijji Temple is said to have the oldest Kangiten murti in Japan.

He is considered so powerful that the idol has been kept away from lay devotees since 1333. The worship is secret and only offered by priests. Ganesha is worshiped through Tantric rites in Japan.

He is specially dear to those in the restaurant or food business and is worshiped with hot oil which is poured over him. The Japanese believe that a promise made to Ganesha if left unfulfilled is said to attract his anger.

May Lord Kankiten of Hokkaijji in Japan bless all his devotees with discrimination, strength and marital bliss!

Shri Ganeshay Namah! Om Gam Ganapatye Namah!
