The Hanuman Bhakta who 'digested' LSD

Hanuman

In the late sixties and early seventies, when the hippy movement was its peak, several spiritual seekers from Western countries experimented with drugs. LSD was a popular drug in those days. Ram Dass (Richard Alpert) who used to experiment with these drugs had often wondered  if a yogi would tell him something about the effect these drugs had on mental states.

LSD is known for its psychological effects which can include altered thinking processes, closed- and open-eye visuals, synesthesia, an altered sense of time and spiritual experiences, as well as for its key role in 1960s counterculture. It is used mainly as an entheogen, recreational drug, and as an agent in psychedelic therapy. LSD is non-addictive, is not known to cause brain damage, and has extremely low toxicity relative to dose.[3] However, acute adverse psychiatric reactions such as anxiety, paranoia, and delusions are possible.

When Ram Dass met his guru Neem Karoli Baba, he felt his mind go blank but the guru asked for the 'medicine'. Ram Dass remembered that he had a few tablets of LSD on him. One tablet was enough of a dose for one person. Baba took nine hundred milligrams, a very strong dose for a beginner.
Ram Dass was shocked. He waited for a reaction. Minutes passed and then it was an hour and nothing happened. The 'medicine' had not ruffled the yogi at all!

May Neem Karoli Baba, the devotee of Lord Hanuman, bless us with a longing for the divine feet of Lord Rama! Jai Siya Ram! Jai Hanuman Dada! Jai Neem Karoli Baba ki!
