How Shiva smashed the pride of the rishis of Daruka Vana

Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva assumed the form of Bhikhshitana with Lord Vishnu disguised as Mohini posed as Shiva's wife. Both entered Daruka Vana where some Rishis had developed pride in their abilities and had convinced themselves that they no longer needed to worship God with form.

Lord Shiva became a handsome beggar seeking alms in this aspect. When the wives of the rishis saw Shiva they were maddened with love at his beautiful form. The sons of the rishis fell madly in love with Mohini, and the rishis were not unaffected either and both forgot their pride and began following the beautiful pair.

In time, both revealed their true form and taught a lesson to the rishis who had been consumed by pride.

May Lord Shiva Bhikshitana and Mata Mohini bless us with the desire for liberation from the cycles of life and death!

Har Har Mahadev! Jai bolo Chakra Nishan ki! Jai Vishnu Bhagwan ki!
