Shri Radhe Maa - Katha of Mahashakti Mata Khodiyar

Khodiyar Mata

In the sixth century, Mamaniya Gadhvi, a devotee of Lord Shiva, decided to end his life when some palace guards insulted him for being childless. The merciful Lord appeared before his devotees and took him to Nagaloka where the daughters of Nagdeva, the king of the realm assured Mananiya that he should return home and prepare eight cradles and they would do the rest.

Eight snakes entered the cradles and Mamaniya had seven daughters and one son. Mata Khodiyar, who manifested in Mamaniya's house was one of the seven. She displayed her powers at an early age and it was clear to all that she was a manifestation of Mata Adi Shakti, the Empress of the Universe.

As Mamania was of the Charan caste, Mata Khodiyar is honored by all Gujaratis as a Charan's daughter. The Charans are renowned for their readiness in battle, literary and musical ability and their loyalty for their patrons.

May Mata Khodiyar, the protector of the weakest, bless us with courage, devotion and love for all beings!
