Devi Shailputri in ancient Greece
Aspects
of Goddess Shailputri, or the Daughter of the Mountain, or Uma, were
present in the ancient Greek-Roman tradition's depictions of the Goddess
Cybele. Like Goddess Durga, Cybele was associated with mountains
(Pahada-waali), hawks and lions (Sherawali). She was often depicted
riding a chariot or rath driven by lions like Goddess Durga. Cybele was
dear to eunuch and trans-gendered people (hijras) like Mahashakti Renuka
in the Hindu tradition. Mother Cybele was also known as 'Mother of the
mountain.'
